If action / adventure is your thing, definitely don't get a 3DS. The only game close to the kind of games you play is Resident Evil Revelations, which is now available on console. I do love my 3DS, but I also really like RPG, strategy games and the like. The XL is $200 and yesterday the Wii U was going for $250.

no

When's the last time Square Enix released a game in the US for 3DS? Have they moved to Vita?

This isn't to say there there's no more room for the market to grow, but anyone with a casual to moderate interest in gaming has already purchased a Wii. It crossed 100 million units sold this year, and I highly doubt any one of those people will be stymied enough by nintendo's naming convention to buy the same

The only reason Master Chief is the mascot for xbox is because they have (arguably) contributed no other characters to the gaming world. Imagine an xbox version of smash bros. or playstation all stars. How many characters would be on that roster?

A lot of the confusion seemed to come from the consoles looking nearly identical. There's no mistaking the mini and the U, so it seems like this could be a smart move.

Thank you - best article I've read in quite a while.

Wii U says on the box "Includes 2 Mario games"

Go for the XL. It's $30 off now at amazon. Otherwise I'd recommend the 2DS, but the sale this weekend makes it not that much more, and since you're not planning to take it with you, the size is only a benefit. I would't really recommend the original 3DS under any circumstance - the control placement is too

It's a bit too soon to say that Bungie has made a better game - nobody has played Destiny. I do get what you're saying about 'creative liberation', but I would hate to see Zelda go the same way as Metroid in the last generation, or Star Fox the one before. Nintendo doesn't have a great track record with handing off

I thought you were going to say launch PS3 games were better performing than their 360 counterparts. I guess I don't really see what your point is.

Or... people that are about to make a $400-500 purchase and care about the long-term relevance of that purchase.

Yes. How is a "dudebro" game any different from any other game when you're talking about technical performance?

It (could obviously) matter because it's an indication of how other games will perform as well. With exclusives becoming increasingly rare, it's relevant information to know which console will perform better with multi-platform games going forward.

you might gain a little appreciation for what they do if you read this:

They're the same games we get every year. Hardly a great way to kick off a new system launch.

Smash bros. not a complex game? Zelda appearing at launch a year after skyward sword? If you've really dug into these games at all, you know they are hugely complex, polished for the amount of time equal to a full development cycle, and in the case of Zelda, typically take 5-6 years between releases. So you'll be

Seconded. The DS one was possibly the best time I had on that system.
