Yes, it is. They believe they are manipulating the audience with every move they make, when in reality people are just responding to what they like. And they'd do that no matter if some movies ended up less successful or not.

I can only assume they don't want to break the billion dollar spell and put out movies that don't become giant events. If you regularly release movies that do half as much business, then you might worry that audiences won't think every single movie is one they HAVE to go to.
