This is my guess, although I haven’t dug into the case to confirm it. Even minor things like this can quickly metastasize once the late fees are added in, and it can get even worse if a collection agency gets involved.
I’m wondering if the “embezzlement” tag comes from accumulated late fees that the rental store might have reported when filing the charge.
Embezzlement usually occurs when large sums of money are involved. I’m thinking the collection agency sat on this long enough for late fees to accumulate to the point it could be considered embezzlement to up the intimidation factor when they try to bully money out of the people they try to collect from.
“Embezzlement” seems like an odd charge for failing to return a rented videotape. And I have a hard time understanding why it would be a felony for a tape that would have been worth $60 at most. That’s just weird.
Anyone using a mouse and keyboard in online competitive games against players using a controller is scum.
I would prefer they just detect the input method and group people. I believe Fortnite does this.
