I LOVE The Disintegration Loops. They're so dark. It was pointed out somewhere (probably Pitchfork or some other pretentious place) that the Loops are literally the sound of music dying. Because the loops are old magnetic tape, every time they go through, another small bit falls off. Eventually, the recording simply

As a teacher, I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this.

Put some branches up next to it. Boom - The Berlin Lean-To!

Just finished watching Fritz Lang's M. It was wonderfully tense and very Expressive (Expressionist?). It's my first Lang film. Any advice on where to go from here?

This is how I feel every single day after I teach 6th grade band.

I actually really enjoyed Argo as well. The only rough points for me were the chase down the runway and the almost-missed-it phone call.

I'm a fan. There are so many plot holes, but it's just a blast. Kinda like The Day After Tomorrow for me.

So like Robert Christgau?

Maybe today's Disney Channel would be a better climate, what with Phineas and Ferb and Gravity Falls.

Not at all! Go into the Chrome Web Store, click on "Extensions," then search for "Dictionary."

Yeah, I thought that was a typo at first. But thanks to Chrome, I can double-click on a word and get a definition!!

@avclub-fbb1d0aa8eb214a2ce4aec289a3c6b6d:disqus When it comes out on DVD, I'll make sure to check out the music again, with what you said in mind. I'll be sure to find The Ghost Writer as well.

I liked Argo too, but I don't understand why it got nominated for music. I think Alexandre Desplat has done good work (didn't he take over for John Williams for the last several Harry Potters?), but the music in that film didn't stand out to me at all.

I actually use Axe antiperspirant because it lasts all day. I just feel a bit embarrassed going through the checkout.

Actually, this is my third attempt at Pynchon. I tried The Crying of Lot 49, twice, and bailed on it after 20 pages. It wasn't the book, it was me, so don't let that scare you.

My year-late read was Karen Russell's Swamplandia! I found the family compelling, and the sections with Ava and Bird Man incredibly harrowing.
