Ummmmm.......

How can I break this to you...

I’M A TAXPAYER TOO.

New tech is expensive. Thank you taxpayer for subsidizing my DD. I’m a taxpayer too BTW, I’m fine with helping get more EV’s on the road in hopes of a more sustainable future. Sorry you are butthurt about it.

The tax subsidy will go away eventually. It's a stopgap in place until the cost of the batteries and related tech comes down. Give it ten years and a Focus Electric will cost virtually the same as a Focus gasoline powered car. The economics make sense if you do it right, you can continue to deny it, but there are

Have you seen the deals they are giving on EV’s to try to push them out of the dealers? In California you can lease some of these cars for $99/mo with minimal (<$1000) down. I’ve got near perfect credit (815 score right now) and I couldn’t even get them to get my wife’s Civic EX below $260/mo with $1000 down. In

My i3 travels 100 miles on approximately 23 kWh of energy. At my normal electric rate of $0.08/kWh, it costs me $1.84 at my current average 4.3mi/kWh.

Gas is cheap, and my electricity is some of the cheapest in the country at $0.08/kWh and I still got an EV, because it STILL makes financial sense.

I’m not in the same situation as you, I live in a detached home with a garage, so the only “sitting around” I really do waiting for my car (i3) to charge, is while I’m asleep. If an unexpected trip comes up and I don’t have enough range on the car, I’ll take one of my fun cars, or if my wife is home, we take her CUV.

If you live in an apartment with no possibility of having the management install car chargers, well, don’t buy an electric car. Simple.

I’m sure it’s a fine car, but I look at it and see 4000lbs of “meh.”

They will probably lease for $249/mo with a couple thousand down or $300/mo with nothing down after the initial release hype dies down a little. Doesn’t sound like too much $$$$ to me.

I like the i3, but for what it is, it is severely overpriced. Had I not been offered such a good deal on the lease, I’d probably be driving a Leaf instead. I love cars, but I don’t love my i3, just like I haven’t loved any of my commuter cars. It’s like a toaster to me, as long as it toasts my toast and doesn’t try to

My “money down” was just the lease acquisition fee, first month payment, and the $1200 lease protection plan paid in full.

The BMW site only accounts for base MSRP. Even the “electronauts” as they call the extreme early adopters for the i3 are only paying about $800 in the US. Most dealers now will do about $300/mo with little down, much less in California. BMW also is pushing sales of the i3 and will typically discount anywhere from

Golfball summed it up well, but the most important fact is that the lease costs are heavily subsidized. I put virtually nothing down on a $50,000 MSRP BMW i3 and pay $230/mo. There are many people out there paying even less than me. You can get pretty good deals on EV’s that make for a VERY SENSIBLE financial choice.

I care about cars, a great deal in fact, I own several. I am very interested in this car as a daily driver, because electric cars are awesome for the boring commute.

It’s sold in CARB states, so Cali, Oregon, NY, and a few others.

As a parent, I don’t know if I like the video rear-view mirror. I use the mirror quite often to take a quick glance at the kids in the back seats. Hopefully there is a way to easily switch the screen off temporarily so I can use the traditional mirror when I need it.

I like it. I’ll try to trade my i3 lease in early on it, but I doubt they’ll be willing to pay off the ridiculous residual that BMW estimated it was going to have, haha!

Coolest part about these taxis is the back doors open and close by a button the driver presses.

Maybe they’ve come a long way in the last 5 years (last time I checked out any of their gear in person) but all I remember is low quality leather, shiny crap that had zero functionality, and in general poor quality. It looked nice if you are into that kind of stuff, but not for me.
