I think you’re correct. A lot of people with no social skills or who are plain assholes are like “oh I’m just autistic” without a diagnosis. Alt-rights et al have coopted the term for their own usage to the detriment of people who are actually on the spectrum.

A lot of Nazis on twitter claim to be autistic, but I think many of those are self-diagnoses based on the assumption that unlikeable=autistic. I have a friend with a proper Asperger’s diagnosis and he is NOT an unlikeable dick (or a Nazi).
I’d say basically no one I know who’s on the austism spectrum is a racist asshole. It’s just a case of racists trying to paper over their racism with something more palpable and relatable.
