Carruth has made a point of asking people who say they don't understand Upstream what they thought happened, and has said they basically all understand the plot of the movie. That's what makes it work (if it works for you, which in your case it doesn't). In emotional terms, it scans relatively easily. Sussing out the…
I think great movies continue to give up secrets: I've seen Miller's Crossing a dozen times over 20 years, and only just realized a critical detail: the hat in the opening sequence, which comes from Tom Regan's dream, isn't his hat; It's Leo's, which means Tom is misremembering his own dream, and therefore the nature…
Jenna Fischer actually gave Rainn Wilson the script, and at the world premiere, Gunn mentioned her on stage with no hint of acrimony or discomfort. Seems to have been an extraordinarily amicable split, as these things go.
Social deviants, no. Social deviancy, pretty much.
@avclub-96f15daceb6669363fbf7f762ed57703:disqus is correct. Comics is comics. They're great, when they are, because of what they are and not because they can be likened to some more "legitimate" art form. (See also, Rock lyrics as "poetry.") Plus if you're going to use the term "graphic novel"—which, don't—it makes a…

Arvin Sloane, mothafucka.
Maybe the tone doesn't read in a transcript, but he wasn't making a point, just being briefly self-conscious about how the phrase might read later on.
It's scheduled to open the revamped Roxy Theater on either the 19th or the 26th.
I heartily endorse that approach.
He's in about 2 of every 3 Argentinian movies.
Swish.
Pretty much. There's a certain equilibrium to true paranoia.
Believe it or not, I thought "An animated movie about the evils of currency? That sounds interesting." I'll be honest: I was hoping for some crazy truther/birther shit, although it wouldn't be fair to downgrade the movie for not being (more) insane. The reason the grade's not lower, to answer the question below, is…
It's one of the purposes of *some* documentaries. More than anything, we need to wean ourselves off the idea that there is such a thing as "a documentary," any more than there is such a thing as "a fiction." Flip the script—shouldn't fiction do X or Y—and you see how absurd it becomes.
Sorry for wasting three minutes of your time.
Didn't want to ruin this for anyone who hasn't seen the movie but
Actually, I take that as a compliment.
Thought of this after submitting my answer, but I'd probably movie Kiarostami's THROUGH THE OLIVE TREES—or the whole Koker trilogy—to the top of the list. (Technically, I have attained these, but physical copies would be nice some day.)
