I really liked the rollercoaster feel of Alex's gravity-assisted ride through the Jovian moons. The space and time compression (done to expedite the narrative) was very apparent in how quickly the moons were coming up on the view screen. Yep, automation as an assistive service for humans at the controls would be the preferred mode for fighting. Self-driving cars might be fine for commuter traffic, but autonomous war machines are not acceptable for combat. From all we've seen on this show, there is no AI capable of waging battle on its own.
