The Volm should just say, "Well, we do intend to incinerate your biosphere, and that requires a lot of power…" then they should laugh at Tom's face. "Am I kidding? I don't know! Let's wait and find out. Ahahaha!"

I like how science guy took for granted that Volm tech would use the same forms and mechanics as Earth tech. I especially liked how he believed that external shapes indicate internal functions. So, basically, if they had a round disc hovering a few centimeters off the ground, he would go, "I believe this is a robotic

Re: "…the woman, who, for all they knew, could have been a child murderer and killed by the Espheni for taking their stock."

I didn't see the point of that scene at all. I don't understand why the script asked for that fight. Was it because the writers could tell how boring the episode was, so they felt obligated to toss in a fight scene?

Yep, that felt like the writers went, "Mkay we've run out of dialog to kill time with these two, soooo… let's just send them home and be done with it." It was such an abrupt (but very welcome) end to the scenes with those characters. Apparently Pope knows all the backroads in the state 'cause he navigated out of a

Re: "We will decide, posthumously, that you are like our collective image of a mother"

Hah! This is such a good point. I was bored by the scene and barely paying attention to what they were doing, so I didn't even consider that issue.

All I can come up with is that they needed this kind of episode to offset the cost of the CGI-, FX-, and stunt-heavy episodes. However, this one still had skitters, a waterfall stunt, an alien aircraft, and an exploding plane, so maybe it's not a budget thing. The only scene in this episode that accomplished something

Hands down the most useless episode of the season for me. I was so bored that every time the search party would dismount from their horses I actually spent time scrutinizing where they tied the horses. I kept going, "Well, there's a tree nearby, so I don't understand why they tied the horses to cars. They should at

Bwahahahaha! OMG I didn't know he was Major Davis. That's hilarious.

I suppose in a world with no long-distance telecommunication and no passenger flights, a distant outpost might be difficult to maintain. However, I believe Datak already has an arms agreement with the Votanis Collective. It was the episode where Nolan busts some gangster types smuggling weapons into Defiance.

I was intrigued and tried to follow Bryan Fuller's tweets for Hannibal, but I honestly couldn't pay attention to Twitter even during the commercial breaks. I ended up skimming his feed at the end of the show instead, which sort of defeats the point. I only did that once and never bothered again LOL.

Did you read Robert Hewitt Wolfe's Coda (PDF) for the series?

@avclub-6eff75e7ea1e4eaecc24df1ca043de61:disqus Huh. I thought Eddie was jailed because he attacked some military personnel while Nolan freed Irisa from … I don't remember where. [ETA: Syfy's official synopsis says, "…serving six years in prison for a crime he committed to keep Nolan free, to keep Irisa from spending

Nolan should adopt some Irathient clothes and take on Sukar's fluffy overcoat. He can be all Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome about it.

I think the Earth Republic offered to support Datak's mayorship, whereas the Votanis Collective offered nothing. I'm actually surprised the Collective didn't jump in to support Datak's bid for election. He would have given them a source of gulanite, a point of control along the transcontinental railroad, and leverage

It might be that previous iterations of Irisa's power in her culture were the result of hallucinogens. The ceremony that Sukar did with Irisa involved sucking on a hookah. They were probably indulging altered states of consciousness.

I never finished watching Andromeda. Once gold Trance replaced purple Trance, I kind of began losing interest. Rev Bem left; Tyr left; the stories began losing their epic feel; and I eventually forgot to continue tuning in (I lost track of the show when it went on season break).

I think I'd need to view her machinations bearing fruit before I can feel confident about how to grasp the character. Right now, everything she's doing is setup work, so the ambiguity keeps me off-balance on how to translate her actions. However, I do agree that Datak and Alak are major motivators for her.

I actually liked Quentin at first when I thought his story was going somewhere. Then it devolved into some whining, which didn't bother me so much, but it made me less interested in his character. However, I agree that there's an implication we'll see him again (even if not in Defiance).
