The Liberata who works as Rafe's maid (Bertie) has spoken a couple of lines here and there. It's usually a snark of some sort, but there's not enough for a whole character to form. Also, the Liberata who drives the land coach bus (Ugarti) was yammering about tickets and restricted areas when the hijacker priest

Gonna echo the prior sentiments: come back and ask us at the end of the season, LOL! Since you didn't make it past the pilot, you should probably wait to assess how the first season worked out before trying to get back into it. How these last upcoming episodes play out will determine how we appraise the show's success

I like Nolan well enough. He just needs to be more Nolan-y. He had more character in the pilot before he became a lawman than he does now.

Fortunately, the actress who played Jered Kikema also plays every named Liberata on the show so far, LOL! The next time Rafe's maid, Bertie, answers the door, or the next time the land coach driver, Ugarti, comes into town, that piece of Jered that was inside them all lives on … and on annnnd onnnn… *flute plays as

Early designs for the Indogene would probably have sidestepped the facial prosthetics problem. I wonder if the makeup department tried air-brushing the hexagon pattern onto the actress's skin instead of gluing a non-moving face onto her. I mean, they could still use a cranial appliance if they wanted to change her

Yah, those two kids came across really ham-fisted in the first episode. I thought it was gonna be the show's way of filling their teenage love story quota, but it's playing out more as a political marriage of state. The diplomatic issues that are coming from that subplot is keeping me engaged at least.

Haha, thanks. I understood all that. My question was actually about what the title of the episode had to do with the episode itself. I just wanted to throw that non-sequitur into this thread, which had deteriorated into a couple of "fuck you"s and what not. XD

@avclub-0ae7484a9f3bbd2a21df420050c032ae:disqus Yes, but it occurred to me that we know a lot about what drives Datak. The series shows us how his culture works, what motivates him, his family dynamics, and his behind-the-scenes machinations to gain more leverage in this town. By contrast, we have nothing on Nolan.

Well, I don't think Stahma is being genuinely altruistic. I think she's still motivated by selfish goals, but I'm getting the impression that her self-centered needs have beneficial ramifications in the long run. What I mean is that she likely understands the difference between ruling with fear versus ruling over

@avclub-0ae7484a9f3bbd2a21df420050c032ae:disqus Well, Nicky was successful in the sense that she actually became Mayor. This gave her access to other higher-ups as per the program's intent. Doc Yewll probably acted like a handler who inserted covert operative Nicky into the situation and assisted in her rise to power.

The show says, "She'll get over it."

Yeah, I'm unimpressed with the turn of events. She really hasn't done anything overlordy yet. Isn't she supposed to be scheming and coming up with countermeasures against the new Volm-Human-Skitter rebels alliance?

@Kumagoro:disqus Well, like I said: I don't care which direction they go (genuinely sincere, or insidiously manipulative), but the way it played out in that scene is not clear on a meta level. Is the audience supposed to believe Cochise or not? My reaction is that it's in-universe manipulation (Cochise is lying), but

Yes, but is there a point to their fighting? I mean, is the Volm simply generously giving up their lives to assist the less-fortunate worlds? What's all that about?

OMG what happened to this thread?! It's like a fight broke out. Can you fighting people tell me what the episode title refers to? I only found a 1968 film about Kill Bill. What does this have to do with the wedding in this episode? Is it just because of the murder?

@avclub-24f6f7a488efc0455e1cb95aea962bed:disqus I think Grant Bowler is doing an adequate job as Nolan, but that's it: adequate. I don't have complaints about his acting, but Tony Curran's Datak is dominating the scenery. I'm wondering if that's partly because we're getting a lot about Datak's backstory, but Nolan has

The older episode didn't actually show Mayor Nicky actually bleeding. There was blood on the pillow and a smear on her finger. She could have just brought a small vial of frozen blood tucked into her breathing tube (or it might not even be blood at all; no one tested anything I'm sure).

It's my job to keep the peace, not run around like Sherlock Holmes chasing old ghosts.

Yes, the show is straddling being ordinary fun and being potentially good. This makes it difficult for me to project what might happen down the line. They might pull out something awesome, or they may produce something predictably average.
