Making art doesn't put you above criticism. If, as an artist, you're unaware of how you're engaging the public or how they might respond, that makes you a shitty artist.

And yet, at least one grown adult wrote this show and consciously made the only bisexual character terrible in ways that the vast majority of people expect bisexuals to be, so maybe it's not that easy to simply generate progressive understanding of others all on your own.
