Man, Cyriaque, you really do find the best shit. This one even tops Darkseid giving the New Gods an exploding dick to the face, and that's no mean feat.

Err. Yeah, I'd have thought McKellen would have already been signed. A Gandalf switch would be pretty jarring.
@Jesse_Astle: I've seen tapes of some old Marvel shows from the late 60s which feature hideous animation. I think FF was one of 'em.
@Graviton1066: Heh. I remember that one well, being 11...
@Chrismsx: "In fact if they do it 70's mock style like Black Dynamite, it could easily become the most awesome thing ever."
I'd always heard we got corny-ass HERBIE b/c 'they' were afraid kids would set themselves on fire if they saw the human torch on TV. I guess I'm no too surprised if it's an urban legend...
@Dr Emilio Lizardo: ...aaaand somebody beat me to the Hoth joke. Dagnabit.
Oh. My God. This shit is awesome. Looks a midge closer to the slightly less goofy sword-and-planet roots of MotU - form that brief interval when the toys were huge but the cartoon wasn't ala the first few of these:

But instead of the hyper-sloop they're looking for, they find a giant floating head of Dorothy Parker, made of titanium. What…

@Andrew Bates: "I've see hell, I've been through hell - I've been signed to Marvelcomics for thirty fucking years!"
KITTY PRIDE AND WOLVERINE!!
@roninpenguin: Yesss! I had that. Read it over and over.
Poor Rubik! Now all the goody-goody Latino kids are going to start hanging out with a smug-seeming robot arm instead...
God I love Leiber. Besides The 1001 Nights, the Lankhmar stories are easily the biggest influence on me as a fantasy writer.
@DrLocrian: I'd hate to see a Lankhmar movie b/c A) they'd screw it up and B) Half the ufn of those stories is the prose. But Perlman as Fafrhd is a brilliant call...
@Jay3: That's a great bizarro SF novel. It gave me solace in the Bush years :P
I think trying to predict 'the next big thing' is a bit tiresome. But I do think some great Supers fiction's been written the past few years. Robust revival of GRRM's Wild Cards, Lou Anders' Masked antho., Minister Faust's biting and funny book, amazing short fiction like Matt Johnson'sshort story here [www.strangeho…
