Reduce fuel costs by tracking engine health and idling. A properly maintained engine uses less fuel, as does eliminating unnecessary idling. Fuel tracking also means you can see when employees ask for reimbursement of fuel they didn’t put into the vehicle (aka theft).

Engine idling. Many businesses put in restrictions on the amount of time an engine can be left idling before you have to shut off your vehicle. Usually 2-3 minutes. These devices can generate a report where that isn’t being followed and you can take appropriate action to correct that behaviour.

GPS has come along way, especially with multiple constellations available. You can get very accurate readings depending on polling rates, and direction of travel. Add in other “low tech” features like accelerometers which are basically on everything these days, a GPS device can be as accurate as your speedometer.

Higher speeds incur greater wear and higher risks. Read the fine print of your contract and there’s likely a clause about excessive speed and additional charges that apply.
