The nice thing about having more than 4GB of RAM is that now your PC can allocate the 2-4GB entirely for the game, while your PC uses the rest for whatever background operations it wants to do. It's really about speed now, though. I've got 16GB of RAM and a 6-core CPU and I don't even worry about multitasking anymore.

Microsoft and Sony have sort of forgone releasing new consoles for releasing the same console, but different; be it in looks or slight hardware upgrades.
