In my limited experience, gay pride events can’t be reduced to “we’re proud to be gay!” Being gay or straight isn’t really something to be proud of, any more than being tall or having brown eyes or being left-handed. It’s just the way we’re made.

Donald, you bonehead, you aren’t the one who would “agree to” Adam Zebley appearing alongside Mueller. That call is for the House Judiciary Committee. And they approved it.

Depends on who you ask! (Merriam-Webster, for instance, prefers it as two words, although they’ll allow one.) I prefer it as one word, but because so many people think that’s wrong, I usually write it as two. Maybe I should just please myself and write it as one! Or maybe I’ll come up with a brand new term. What about

Copy editor here. Some style guides now allow “data” to be either singular or plural. Which is WRONG, but there you go. Some also allow “anymore” as one word (not as in “Are there any more peas?” but as in “I don’t like her any more”). As someone whose middle-school English teacher would go bananas if we wrote it as

Also people who confuse palette with palate. Grrr.

I want someone to ask Miller about the fact that so many Jews, including many thousands of children, died in the Holocaust because the U.S. (along with many other Allied countries) wouldn’t allow them to immigrate, either with or without their families. This policy was largely predicated on anti-Semitic views that

Yes, they are very kind and helpful to the contestants. I thought it would be more of a smackdown, American-Idol-style thing where the audience would be encouraged to make fun of the not-so-great contestants, but it isn’t at all. If a trick doesn’t work for P&T, they give constructive feedback. It’s a really fun,

I agree. McCain was reacting in the moment, and in the moment we don’t have time to parse our words. I don’t think he meant, “No, he’s not an Arab, he’s a good man!” I think he was reacting to the disturbing right-wing trend of seeing Obama as a sinister person who was lying about his heritage and/or religion in order

It’s deeply disturbing to me how often Trump refers to female violent-crime victims - real or hypothetical - as “beautiful.” Implying that rape or murder are less heinous when the victim is unattractive and therefore not as valuable, not as good.

And the fact that he has no idea of her history and situation. Presidents have aides (think Tony Hale on “Veep”) whose job is to remind them, just before the scheduled meeting/photo op, of who they’re meeting and why. It’s to avoid situations like this one. An aide should have spent 30 seconds or so encapsulating whom

I feel like all Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musicals are boring except for one showstopping number. In “Cats,” that’s “Memory,” of course. I saw the show early in its NY run and thought it was oddly unsettling and extremely overrated except for that one song.

Either he’s forgotten that, or he still thinks Puerto Ricans aren’t “real” Americans. Look at his phrasing in the tweets, like saying “the United States Congress” send then relief money instead of just “Congress” sending it. Very telling.

I like to think Noelle has now found herself a ballet-loving, pot-smoking, long-haired lover and they are very happy together.

I’m a bit too young to care about the Camelot mystique myself, but I remember feeling really sad when this happened, not because of JFK Jr. himself but because of the grieving Kennedy family, who had already been through so much, and because of the Bessettes, who lost two of their daughters in one day. Unimaginable.

She obviously can’t stand him. I’m guessing she’s decided to play the long game and stay in the marriage so she can inherit a lot more money than she’d get in a divorce settlement. The man is a heart attack or a stroke waiting to happen, so she might not have long to wait.

This reminds me of the murder of the young actress Dominique Dunne back in the ‘80s. An ex who had been stalking her eventually strangled her to death. The defense team painted her as a promiscuous, cruel woman who had used and discarded him, driving him to the point where he was consumed by rage and jealousy and

In my experience, “cunt,” when used derogatively, carries the connotation of a woman who’s more powerful or assertive than the man using the term thinks she should be. It specifically uses a term for the female genitalia in order to knock said woman down to size, to reduce her to a sex object only.

It just blows my mind that anyone can defend these comments. I’ve heard a lot of conservatives bending over backward to talk around the issue, because they can’t honestly answer the direct question “Were these racist tweets?” in any other way but “Yes.”

I agree Lindsey Graham is a craven political hack and his recent pro-Trump attitude stomps on what America is supposed to be about.

The problem is, the people who voted for him *knew* he was a racist bastard with no soul. That’s what most of them like about him! And I’m not sure impeachment would be appropriate when the president turns out to be exactly who he promised to be and showed he was every day of his campaign.
