It’s probably going to be the opposite of a disaster in 50 years. Slowing of the birth rate, especially as the US has moved to a service-based economy, will allow for far more opportunities for the next generation that what us millennials in our 30s are seeing. 

The birth rate is absolutely going to crater now. Some millennials are still struggling with the fallout from 2008 - basically all of them (us, I’m a millennial) were already starting from lower salaries - and now I can’t imagine that older millennials (mid-30s) who put off having kids until they were more financially…
