They were not going to give him a $10,000,000 signing bonus and then cut him before the first game when his salary for the year became guaranteed.  In addition, find an example of the Steelers re-signing one of their guys to a big contract and then cutting him before the second year.  They don’t do that.

Right.  The Steelers aren’t wrong for franchising Bell and Bell is not wrong for sitting out if he wants to.  He has not signed the offer so he is not under contract.  No reason to think either side is doing something wrong.

Actually the percentage of the top salaries Bell will get goes up to 144% if he is tagged for the third time.  So he will get more next year if tagged again, which the Steelers are extremely unlikely to do.

I don’t understand the rush to blame either side. Both the Steelers and Bell are using the rules as agreed upon in the CBA to do what they think is in their best interests. Neither side is evil because of this. Neither side is doing something wrong.
