A lot of the teenagers I teach have coffee for breakfast and skip lunch, or have a VERY light lunch. They have sports and the like after school—usually, they are going until 5 p.m. or later on just a couple hundred calories. It’s terrifying how normalized this is. And how absolutely dull they are in class because

It’s bizarre to me how open the Tik Tok teens are about all their issues on this seemingly public platform.

Thanks for reporting on this, it is very important.

I KNOW WHAT THIS IS!

Ugh....whatever, Donald! Go play with the plane while the adults talk.

Am naive thinking that the inauguration crowd will socially distance and wear masks, and still be larger than Trump’s crowd?

I gave out a bonus point each time someone corrected my spelling, which is admittedly terrifyingly bad, and hopefully proved by example that perfection wasn’t the point of writing, effectively advocating for one’s own ideas is. Also, Hawthorne himself didn’t even spell it Hawthorne until he graduated college, so I’m

They have a demonstrable impact on the economy, and South Korea has always had exemptions to for high performers in public fields—athletes, folk musicians—and if anything there were more likely to be scrutinized for their celebrity than most rich Koreans. There are plenty of cases of rich and popular Koreans serving.

When I told my dad we’d been exposed to someone with Covid who came to our house with a dry cough (masked, thank goodness, and no symptoms yet), he said that we don’t have an epidemic of Covid. We have an epidemic of stupidity.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

I just don’t know what to say about this anymore. The collective selfishness of the American people is breathtaking in its cruelty.

Dude has worked for 256 days straight, and has probably had to do a truckload of interviews like this. I’m going to give him a pass for focusing on the things he can actually control and advice about personal responsibility he can give to patients, current and potential.

yes, i am jezebel’s parent. i also think it’s astonishing how many people, since the election that joe biden won, coming out of the woodwork who, for some reason, seem to think it is the job of jezebel to refrain from criticizing, or even praise, the person who is going to be the most powerful person in the world.  my

The original argument from the article was about a concern that the police were using these videos to target offenders based not on the seriousness of the crime, but on the social status of the victim. My argument spoke directly to that issue. It was an extreme (but perfectly true) example, but there are many millions

There’s a dude serving life in Angola right now for stealing a pair of hedge clippers. You’re going to tell me that that would still have happened if he’d been a rich old white lady from the old-money part of New Orleans, and his victim had been a poor young black man? I think the fact that it was the other way around

I didn’t write that headline. "Fascinating" is what I went with.

Also, these conversations always seem to miss the fact that sometimes an abortion is needed because the fetus isn’t viable. Sometimes abortion is the only moral, merciful choice. These limits on abortion access can put people in the position of having to give birth to babies with no chance at survival, which is cruel

THIS is why we have to defund the police. The funds and access the PD are using would be used so, so, SO much better by a team of social workers and community advocates. Rather than lying in wait until they become criminals, we could actually intervene and help at-risk students avoid the school-to-prison pipeline.

This response pushed my buttons, so I rewrote it.

Just gonna hazard a guess here...this ACAB PD will have a Juvenile Hall and/or local prison, both for-profit, that they are incentivized to keep filled to capacity. This is your actual school to jail pipeline, documented.
