I had heard that as well but money just makes more sense to me, Hollywood has made similar movies plenty of times before, in this case it would have been a lot more risky.

I'm still assuming the biggest problem was the budget and marketability, yes. Also depends how willing del Toro would be to gender flip someone or just stick with the source material I guess.
It's more of a "How do we market this to women?" thing. They did have Tom Cruise attached, but if you weren't a Cruise fan or a Lovecraft fan, there was very little appeal.
Eh, you can also blame Universal for not wanting to fund a $100+ million R-rated horror movie with absolutely zero female characters. In fact, let's blame them together.
Actually, there were glitches in the pre-Greatest Hits version of SotC that allowed you to climb it about halfway through your first playthrough, though I usually waited until my second playthrough to make sure.
I actually followed these guys casually for quite some time when I had no access to a PS2 and SotC was my favorite game. It's amazing what dedicated people can find in games like this. Just go watch a speed run of Ocarina of Time or something like that and the number of glitches and exploits these people inexplicably…

It's been getting better, Jim Sterling and Ben Croshaw are definite steps in the right direction, but yeah, far too much of it is paid for by publishers.

I don't know, they wrote Nemesis well enough.

Yeah, being a fan of Stalker (The movie, the game, the book they were based on) I was hoping they would do something with this. With mutants involved I probably would have preferred ghosts. I'll probably still see it if the atmosphere is intact.

So how long do you think it will take for this to actually be a really good system that no one plays?
No launch Gravity Rush means no buy for me, at least for the time being.
The only problem with that this game will make most of it's money in Japan, where absolutely no one cares about the Xbox. Meanwhile, the PSP has had a huge resurgence of popularity in the past few years thanks to Monster Hunter.
