Hate to tell this you, buddy, but, pretty much "every society" is a patriarchal society.

You're completely right crocuta. (And on a side note, fuck science can be amazing sometimes).

I would also like to add that there's been a lot of research into the actual standards individuals have when choosing a partner.

No matter the sexual orientation or gender of the individuals involved, our standards can be

I've had : "We just wanted to tell you that you're very pretty for a black girl."

I just want to add our notion of beauty is tied to the western idea of beauty. Words that will always haunt me even when I am at my most confident, "You're pretty but not in a white girl way."

Maybe not the exact same grit and steel, but it seems a little NYC-centric to think, if I'm understanding you correctly, that no place has ever been roughneck like NYC. 'Cause I think if that's what you were saying, and you may not have been, that you are quite wrong.

And to tie this back to today other articles, this is why current pop tarts need to stop trying to be Madonna. There will never be another Madonna. She was forged in the grit & steel of a city whose equivalent no longer exists. They cannot walk her path & should stop trying.

I like good, expensive, sipping vodka (Chopin), but you'll not find me at the club with a bunch of shot glasses and mixers. I don't share my sipping vodka, and I prefer to consume it in the quiet of my living room where my children think it's water and ice.

You know what always squicks me out about the people who want to define their sexuality as "alpha" or "beta" or excuse their behavior by biological imperatives? It's always some choice from the wealth of options in nature done apparently randomly just to shore up what they really want to do. Not only are we our own

I'm as charming as five motherfuckers strapped together.
