I’d go so far as to call Defending Your Life a forgotten masterpiece
I’d go so far as to call Defending Your Life a forgotten masterpiece
A movie that has been completely forgotten, it seems
To some degree you shouldn’t watch these movies because you’ll possibly get annoyed by how much Stranger Things just repackages moments from 80s cinema
Oh you’re one of those people. You’re making the equivalent argument of someone saying that there are no moral facts because there are many contexts, say, in which killing someone is acceptable. But we don’t, as a society, say “Oh in that case, there’s no point to law.” Just because some things are a bit arbitrary or…
I never made the assumption that there are no good or bad movies. Of course there are bad movies and good movies
Everyone. Find the discussions on the My Fair Lady page
“There weren’t SINGING NUNS in the concentration camps!” That’s interesting
Heyyyyy to those who said, for some reason, that it wasn’t possible - here’s a review of 1965's biggest movie which in no way filters things through the politics of 2019. It’s just a fun, well-written look at a piece of art. Thanks, Tom!
Ahhh yes but does that one feature someone attempting to cheat in order to stave off financial disaster and then going insane through isolation? I’m betting not.
First rule of comedy? Know your audience. Agreed.
Did anyone see Deep Water about Donald Crowthurst’s attempt to sail around the world single-handed? Fantastic story and documentary
“Craftsman of the highest order”
Um...are we talking about the same Michael Moore? All of his films, including Fahrenheit 9/11, feature a “throw a ton of shit at the wall and see what sticks” phase. Even as a raging college liberal in 2004 I couldn’t praise F9/11 as a FILM
I’d like to take this moment to plug Lady Macbeth with Florence Pugh, which — while not quite a direct reimagining of Shakespeare — was a fantastic movie with bloody Shakespearean themes
“How the hell else do you approach critiquing movies from 50 years ago in 2019?”
And apparently the movie is American, now that I look. Shows what I know
I should have probably made it clear that I think there’s a big difference between *mentioning* the brownface et al, and stating/implying that the movie is WORSE because of it. It is interesting and illuminative to compare social mores from the present to the past. It is foolhardy and pointless to judge people in…
Totally agree with Rosemary’s Baby. Earns its running length
I’ll give you Rosemary’s Baby which is almost identical (137) in running length to this one, which is 140. I don’t think the Coppola Dracula is particularly good film at all, and I don’t think it earns its running length. Haven’t seen the rest but still, good points!
Didn’t the UK make this exact movie but with hiphop like three years ago? Patti Cakes?
2:20 horror film? Jesus. Can anyone name a good long horror movie other than maybe The Shining?
