Run It Back

There are literally 4 countries in the world who have gotten near the US in early adoption of women’s soccer. They are 20 years ahead of everyone else. The men are 50 years behind everyone else, because every other country has been far more into soccer for far longer than the US.

I’m so proud of this comment section.

The EIC defended her on Twitter.  It wasn’t just Kelsey that fucked it up.

Because she was never about actually getting their answers, just an agenda. She fired a contact us through a website to a generic mailbox and expected a response within 2 days in the middle of a major tournament while litigation was pending.

But what does Kelsey McKinney think of this statement?

This absolutely needs to remain the top comment here.

Exactly.  Well stated.

Testosterone levels.  I don’t feel I need to address your confusion with sticky as I feel it is not honest.

If that’s what you want, a truly open division, then you must be prepared for the very likely outcome of zero women winning or even qualifying for events.

I can’t tell if you’re agreeing or not, but women have competed with men when they were good enough to do so. It’s rare because of how much a physical advantage males have over females genetically. I promise you, if Alex Morgan were good enough to play with the USMNT and wanted to, they would allow it.

“Seems that if you’re in the allowed testosterone range then you’re in the range”

I honestly don’t know, and I frankly don’t care. I do know that the ruling is specific and that while it’s a shitty situation, I’d rather not care at all what her genetic makeup or sex organs are and require her to hit a T-level threshold than wade into the very sticky situation of what constitutes a female.

This continues to be one of the worst, most naive takes on Deadspin. Sometimes, you can’t operate on what you wish was true and you have to operate on what *is* true.

No, she’s not. The ruling is actually very specific and regards women with XY chromosome pairs. She does not have XX chromosomes.

This stupid thing is said *every* time here and it’s still wrong. Phelps is competing against literally everyone. Semenya is competing against a subset limited to women, while possessing a significant advantage of having male testosterone.

The ruling is specific to 46X/Y people, which means she isn’t a XX chromosome female.  That’s the part Deadspin likes to leave out.

“Never said you weren’t allowed to disagree with it”

I was being generous. I’m well aware d3 men’s teams would beat the USWNT.

The point I was making was that it was an unreasonable answer, and she made it. People are going to react to that. If it was said sarcastically or hyperbolically (which is what I think is what happened), cool, I get it.

She asked for a billion dollars, which is massively unreasonable. I think it’s justified to question someone who is being unreasonable.
