I enjoyed Henry Sugar, but after this and Asteroid City I think he should challenge himself by seeing if he can do a straightforward, gimmick-free narrative film again.

“Young men are puttin’ themselves six feet in the ground / ‘Cause all this damn country does is keep on kickin’ them down”

I understood this to be super common in the folk / country world several decades ago. All the old pro-union songs were American folk music. Then...something happened, so now all we get are “star-gazin’ in my Ford truck, stringin’ up some city cuck, wait this salsa’s made in New York City?!? No, sir, none for me!

  • Conservatives suck at art. They’re bad at it. So there are a lot fewer conservative artists creating art of any quality. So when one does come along and create something passable, every single conservative purchases it, creating a unified wave of dollars behind that one mediocre thing. Liberal dollars, meanwhile, are

I’m so confused about runtimes. Budgets and profitability are such a sticking point in the current strike — so why do studios turn out 2+ hour kids/family movies? A tight 90 min has got to be cheaper to produce (maybe not by 25% but certainly by 10-15%); plus, people want shorter films. Everyone complains about film

“One would think” you’re a fuckin dork

There’s nothing quite like following up a “Excellent directing by Hader” with 2 paragraphs illustrating complete confusion, uncertainty and bafflement about what actually happened in the scene and ep, complete with 3 “maybe”s.

“wahhhh i’m in the comments section of an episode i didn’t watch complaining about things that were resolved by said episode!”

I think it’s doing pretty well. There may be some characters missing, but the writing is the same as ever. I don’t mind not having some characters, because the guest stars always bring something new to it.

He actually does have a glove on when he fires the gun. There’s a quick shot where you see his gloved hand in his pocket behind the holster, just before he reaches into his pocket with his other (ungloved) hand for the switch to turn out the lights.

I’d call this a partial list of the worst opinions of all time.

Absolutely loved this season and excited for the next.

No.

Alright, I’ll be the one to say it. Abbott Elementary is...fine. I just find it odd that a show that repurposes the tiredest conceit in comedy is somehow seen as revolutionary.

Something I just realized after finishing this episode: Jimmy is always at his most vengeful when people attempt to hold themselves accountable. Note how his true rage at Howard started when Howard confessed that he felt responsible for Chuck’s death. When Kim comes in to sign the divorce settlement, his performance

Not necessarily. There isn’t any real rush to do the caper, so they could take a while to set it up. They are talking about different college football games constantly which only happen once a week. It could have been multiple successive weeks up to a couple months to get it all down pat.

I know it’s a losing battle, but it’s just so tacky. Not only does “begs the question” already mean a specific other thing to logic nerds, you never see “beg” being used in that way otherwise.

You should make it your full time job to just correct “begs the question” everywhere.

Season 8 isn’t even one of the best TV seasons in Game of Thrones.

Whoa, there are still people defending S8? Wacky.
