nope. we buy our butter 4 pounds at a time and toss it in the freezer. A stick in the fridge, and a stick on the counter. Rotate forward as needed. No issues with texture, consistency, flavor, or shelf life.
Again...family of five, lots of pancakes on weekends, wife who bakes a lot...your mileage may vary.

they are horrible. First packing the butter in is a pain. So is cleaning out the residue before the reload. And if the slightest bit of butter falls into the water you get a nasty rancid mess. We ditched ours for just a simple covered butter dish and never looked back.
