I don’t think the question is inherently impolite. Part of this exchange is so that I can tell them how my name is prounounced or they’re trying to figure it out on their own and failing.

People really, really struggle with the name Michael when its’ spelled normally. I feel for your spouse because my name is...in a similar set up.

I know people mean well and are just genuinely curious. But then they stop listening half-way through my explanation, anyway.

I will comment on every article about weird baby names and spellings, even if I only reach one person who is considering giving their baby a “unique” name:
