You wanna know how I know you’ve never driven one?
It was 1969. Nobody wore seatbelts back then.
They’re the greatest thing I never knew I wanted. I never have to get my keys out of my pocket.
The biggest surprise here is that I totally would have pegged you for an Android Auto user over CarPlay. Or maybe some sort of Hot Dogs wired in series to produce mildly pleasing humming sounds.
I’m sorry, people who complain about the “issues” with proxy keys just come off sounding like those Oregonians who were all worried and angry about now being able to pump their own gas and how it was going to kill everyone in the state. If you’re the type of person who can drive off without your proxi-key and get…
Unless you’re a pro driver you cannot drive an M5 on the edge on a road like that. Not even close. 7/10, maybe, when your good and there’s no traffic. Which is why a (communicative) car with much lower limits tends to be more fun to drive in the real world.
A lot of folks fixate on the horsepower and torque figures but they forget that the GLI is lighter on its feet, shorter, more tossable and more engaging to drive. Based on all of the reviews out there which all seem to be praising VW’s efforts here I feel like this (at least in the US anyway) is to compact sedans in…
Those would be the most direct competitors. I wouldn’t drive a Civic if someone gave the ugly thing to me, nor a Mazda3, so we zero each other out.
The thing about modern performance cars is they’re all so damn fast it’s really hard to get anywhere near the limit on public roads. It’s also really unwise. I mean, I imagine running an M5 near the limit on this road would be just terrifying. This thing occupies that sweet-spot that old fogies like me remember being…
It’s not required. It’s quote from my ‘17 GTI Sport - “recommended for maximum performance”. My car runs just fine on regular, but it’s noticably a tad faster on premium. I draw the line at $.50/gal - below that difference it gets premium, above that I suffer with regular. Where I am it is usually about $.35…
If you’re a grown-ass adult who doesn’t determine your own self-worth by the badge your car wears on its stupidly agressive nose,
What are you going to do with it? My daily driven GTI is the most comfortable car I’ve ever owned (yeah, I’ve mostly owned shitboxes, but still), is quick as I need, handles better than you’d imagine (especially with the trick differential), and the DSG is fine. Maybe if my commute wasn’t an hour+ each day sitting in…
Jetta buyers want a sedan with passenger space. GTI drivers want a smaller car with a hatch to haul some stuff
Yup pretty much the same as the GTI in that regard. Just a little bit of spice, but mostly a clean simple design that will age well and doesn't have to shout about what it is.
Because they know you’ll be annoy’d.
no need to be a p’dant
You can get VAG’s Digital Cockpit on the GLI, but not the GTI. If you want a hatch and digital gauges, you’ve gotta get a Golf R.
Alright, I like this. I’ve given the new Jetta shit because it got “fat and ugly” but they’re not that bad looking in person and the GLI makes it far more appealing. I’d probably still lean towards a Golf GTI but I definitely wouldn’t rule this thing out.
For some reason, I’m more excited to drive this than the Stinger. I’m sure price has much to do with that, but there is something very homey about this car... it’s not trying to redefine a brand or trying to be a lux car. It’s tech doesn’t appear overwhelming.
I would consider this for the manual alone. Over many other vehicles in different price ranges. Good for VW for keeping the manual alive.
