My parents have a Windstream 6 Mbps down connection. I’m not about to invite 100 people over for an online LAN party and then blame Windstream for not being fast enough because I was too dumb to account for the traffic my connection would receive.

For the Kentucky Derby they pay the 3 major carriers to come out and bring extra equipement that does something to help handle the load of users in the small area. It looks like Niantic didn’t bother to do that or book a park that was big enough to handle the amount of tickets sold.
