Both my sisters kept their names when they got married.
Both my sisters kept their names when they got married.
Yeah...I’m like, wow, I thought love, mutual respect, a sharing of values and goals, and maybe, like, a joint fondness for Star Wars were the “best way to bind families.” Apparently my parents’ 40-year-marriage for which my mother kept her maiden name is a big lie because society is now dissolved or something.…
I have a good friend whose in-laws are choosing to express their displeasure about her not taking their last name in the most passive-aggressive way possible. They know she kept her name, but they’ve apparently instructed their entire family to address all cards, invitations, etc. to Mr. and Mrs. Son’s First/Last…
Those moose bites can be pretty nasty.
Coming from the other perspective, they may have their reasons. I spent some time debating which family members should be invited to my wedding, and eventually decided that inviting all my first cousins was easier than choosing where to draw the line. There’s one I still don’t know if the name was right.
It's the image that swims to mind whenever anyone asks me about the frustrating parts of life in Japan.
Lol, it’s scary how clearly I saw that scene in my head just now, trembling voice and everything.
With my first marriage, I couldn’t wait to be Mrs. Bob BetaHusband. I was young. Got divorced & got my name back. With Husband 2.0, I kept my name. We get invitations addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Husband 2.0, and I try not to be annoyed, but why are these people inviting me to things when they clearly don’t know me well…
I’m pretty sure this is what ran through the cashier’s head when I tried to order sweet and sour sauce with fries at McDonald’s once.
Ugh I swear this is like the reaction to anything new that might change how things have been done in Japan
oh man
It’s true though. When I kept my name the entire town fell into disarray. There were roaming gangs of feral children attacking seniors. The moose organized themselves and turned against us. It was pure chaos. We had to abandon the place.
“...Allowing different surnames risks destroying social stability, the maintenance of public order and the basis for social welfare.”
Since 1896 married couples in Japan have been legally obligated to take the same surname. However, five women are…
Thank you. I couldn’t stop yesterday. I appreciate the kind words.
And lol, I just clicked on your profile and saw your profile picture. Is that Carl Sagan holding a light saber on a raptor? That is so awesome and perfect!
Hi Squar!
That is some seriously fucked up shit on your mom’s part. I’m so sorry about your animals <3
I know! I feel the same way! But you are lovely and come with me and let’s comment ourselves into oblivion. Many times I post something and then cringe 15 minutes later because it’s there forever.
I love the Slot and read it every day but I honestly cannot comment there because all the regular commenters already made…
Oh my god your precious comments fawning over my dog are making me smile you’re so cute!
