Nah, it’s collecting dust with the rest of my shoes that need resole-ing.

I love Jezebel, and come here 99.9% of the time for the humor... that said..

Oh no. I love my pretentious black coffee and genuinely enjoy it, but I also love sugar-laden vanilla lattes and Mexican mochas from time to time.

Thanks, Sqarr. Friends said I’ll feel Ok for days, then weird things might trigger sadness. Ding ding ding.

I’m glad everyone is here to tell us that-

Sorry about your father. :/

Ha! My dad died two weeks ago tomorrow, and somehow this tribute (?) to your dad touched me. Oh man, my emotions are such a jumbled mess right now.

I don’t think there’s doubt that most of the people who work one-on-one with the animals love and care for them. That’s why so many former SeaWorld employees now speak out against SeaWorld and orca captivity.

Doesn't matter if they love the animals or not. SeaWorld is a business, period. One that profits off of explotation. Your friend is probably a nice person, but that doesn't make this OK. It's not about her.

Not to mention, uh, we spay and neuter dogs and cats all the time.

I’m not anthropomorphising anything, tealstar. Sea World breeds whales artificially for purely economic reasons. The fact that whales now exist in captivity is not a reason to allow the breeding of more.

It’s interesting that you seem to think that you can judge orca motivations for doing things but no one else can. How do you know “they choose to stay in human care” and don’t just have an automatic fear response to a situation they don’t understand? Would that be because that’s how you would interpret a human in that

Native San Diegan here. Seriously, skip Sea World and go to the Zoo or the Wild Animal Park. They are fantastic facilities and your monies help some critically endangered species and other conservation efforts. Which of course includes carefully managing the reproduction and bloodlines of their critters. No foul there.

Isn’t suggesting that captive animals have to have sex for a healthy life anthropomorphizing them? I mean we say that about people...

I don’t think you get to cuddle any of the animals though. The less human exposure, the better.

How about working at marine mammal rescue centre? All the whale (and seal) cuddling, none of the guilt. Plus they get better and you can release them.

depriving a social animal of the right to reproduce is inhumane.

You know how we are like “ug, back in the day they used to give opium to babies every night to calm them down?”

Hopefully this will also prevent them from separating any more mothers and children.
