The only thing that would make it better is if these were actually playable. Nothing quite added to the immersion like being able to interact with a game within a game, a la Sega’s arcade classics in Shenmue, Geometry Wars in Project Gotham Racing 2, and Donkey Kong in, um, Donkey Kong 64.

Except that the cops and the teachers didn’t treat it as a bomb. The school wasn’t evacuated, the bomb squad wasn’t called, nothin’. They all knew it “looks” like a Hollywood bomb, but they didn’t treat it as a possible threat

That’s actually the first game.

While I hate acronyms without context as much as you, “TL;DR” is one of those that normally doesn’t need to be explained. Like when someone uses “etc.” in their writing. They shouldn’t have to spell out et cetera the first time, even though there may be a few who don’t know what etc. means.

To be fair though, the custom maps got really popular in WC3...hence the name Defense of the Ancients. SC may have been where they were born but I think it’s fair to say WC3 spawned the genre as a real thing.
