You’r not alone, and to be fair, i didn’t liked the design when it was released on PS1 back in the day, and it’s not with fugly things like the chocobo and carby i see now that i’ll dig into this remake, another sure pass for me.

If they could make those elements like the Pokemon in detective Pikachu movie, I think it would be super effective.

Nah, I’m with you, man. I think it undermines the original’s aesthetic big time. It’s a pity, too, because FFVII was fairly unique looking among Final Fantasies, especially the newer ones.(Also, Cloud’s hair looks stupid on a realistic looking person.) Imagine how beautiful this game would be if it looked like Persona…

I’m 95% on board with their designs but the “cartoony” element you speak of I can agree with for a few of the designs. The Chocobos and the Moogle for instance just look too “realisitic” in a sense. I wished they did had a bit of a cartoony element to it. Honestly though, I don’t really give two rats ass about it.…

Oh god yeah, it’s grotesque. Tetsuya Nomura is a terrible person to leave in charge of FF7 content, he turns the angsty edge factor up so hard and I’m pretty sure he hasn’t actually played the game.
