i dont know what laptops you've owned, but the last 3 i had always had the ctrl key in the bottom-left of the keyboard. When i then used the IBM ThinkPad and the fn key was in the place of the ctrl key, i found it weird and a dumb design decision.

the old IBM ThinkPads has the Fn key in the place of the Ctrl key. I always thought that was a jerk move because i am, and always was, used to hitting the ctrl key located at the last button bottom left of the keyboard.
