It’s likely time to change. If they want to continue to exist, they need to become something different than before. 

She really felt like she was included to show they were progressive, but when it came time for her to take an active role in the story, the writers were (are?) just not interested in writing for a woman as a main protagonist.

His cameo was great. Made me smile to see him.
