ABC News (and others) think that LA-based director Ramaa Moseley started the hashtag:

I know it might seem like a pedantic tangent to what is obviously a much larger issue, but the #BringBackOurGirls drives me crazy. Why "our"? Who are "we"? Do the girls not belong to themselves? And by pitting it as some sort of tug-of-war with them in the middle, are we not contributing to the problem that girls'

I been drinkin'. Watermel-on...

This is when we know gentrification is real and it's detrimental: when you can't afford to live in an actual city, but you aspire, at least, to smell like you do.

I get the irony of the "it doesn't move you forward in life," but I read it differently. She's acknowledging that she's benefited (enormously) from her (enormous) pretty privilege, but I hear her saying something like 'guys, I've been to the mountain top, and it's not all that. What superficial people are obsessed

Oh wow. For sure, if there's justice in bodily functions, you are certainly due some sort of windfall!

This is a "thread" (ha) about feminine hygiene, but I'm just coming here for a friendly PSA that since I got my IUD two years ago, I ain't had a period. Not one. Don't miss it. Don't need tampons. Don't need cups. Insurance covered it. Not gettin' pregnant. Highly recommend it!

I'm not in Berlin right now, and I realize it's unlikely that you're in Berlin right now. But Berlin has a wonderfully retro dance club called Clärchens Ballhaus, and people of all ages dance so sweetly. I love it.

Wow! You have commenters coming here to define a word whose meaning you did not ask to have defined! Dunno if they're men, but they got that mansplainin' down to a T!

The aesthetics, the worldviews, the sources of income, the fear of expressing anything that could be construed as genuine sadness...these ladies are the Jack Daniels Single Barrel to the patriarchy's corn.

I wasn't trying to say they should get a pass, and I definitely don't think the words—regardless of the motivation behind them—are ok. I guess I was trying, clumsily, to offer some comfort. When attacks come *from a place that looks to me like a wound, it somehow hurts me less than when it's pure ignorance or

I'm surprised to find myself defending it, as I came to this comment section thinking things much along the same lines as your comment. However... this cis straight girl decided to take in "The Drag Queens of Comedy" at the Castro Theatre while on vacation in SF recently, and every single act (with the admirable

Definitely a shirt he took from Jordan Catalano's stylist. Definitely.

Hillary, please revise your headline and portions of your text that use the phrase "commit suicide." The phrase adds stigma to a population that is suffering, and I know that is not your intent.

...and Janelle Monae around the 37:00 mark!

Yeeears and years ago there was a magazine interview with Faith Hill (Jane, perhaps?) where the reporter apparently got too close to some taboo about the way she and Tim met...and I believe Alan Jackson was involved somehow. I think Faith's people ended up throwing the reporter out of the car mid-interview, and the

I'm so sorry for your loss. I bet your husband would be touched by your compassion and empathy here.

Can we please jettison the phrase "commit(ed) suicide"? The word 'commit' implies criminality, and as a matter of fact, killing oneself is not illegal in any US state. When people say this, do they mean to imply that it is a crime against God, or religion or something?

Feminism's a thing we all work hard for, but progress is slow and sometimes it's hard to see victory. But ladies and gentlemen, Exhibit A: two cisgender white men are publicly, respectfully, admiringly, lovingly paying tribute to the work of a black woman. This is something that did not happen 100 years ago. Flawless.

Where's the line for what's acceptable for a parent to do to a child in the name of religion?
