Just as an aside, that really undersells the role pharmacists play in making sure medication is appropriately prescribed and dispensed. They’re not robots or cashiers, they’re doctors with a specific field of expertise.

“Why wouldn’t you do this?”

Seems like a lot of other respondents did a good job of making the case I would’ve made if I’d returned here earlier, but I’ll also note that going by stars I’m out-voted :(
Under no circumstances is Oklahoma part of the Midwest.
I never knew that about granite!
I was really hoping to find this on the list, or failing that then in the comments -- well done
Or cherries! It takes FRIGHTENINGLY few ground/chewed-up cherry pits to kill someone.
Literally dispensing pills is only a small part of the job of one particular kind of pharmacist (what they call a “retail” pharmacist). And actually it *is* robot-automated to a certain degree at this point, depending on which pharmacy you go to.
This is an incredibly inaccurate and outdated view of what a pharmacist is. I don’t mean that to offend you, just to inform you that their role is not what it used to be.
I couldn’t disagree more. My spouse is a clinical pharmacist, and they’re deeply involved in patient care. Their training/schooling went well, well beyond simply learning functional groups and mechanisms of action, although it was of course not equivalent in all aspects to what an MD’s school is.
Sorry, I don’t mean to…
This was a key lesson with pork for me, too
Thanks for the reply!
Serious question — are undercooked burgers no longer dangerous? I usually order steak medium-rare, but never order burgers less than well-done, for fear of E.coli. And that fear is independent of the quality of the restaurant, of course; if there’re bacteria in the interior of the burger it didn’t happen there, it…
I don’t disagree, I mean more that the general tenor of the site, particularly at the time HitFix got absorbed in, wasn’t a great match for him (though it’s changed a bit since then). The commentariat was significantly worse, too, and a big part of Alan’s prior style had been his interaction with his commenters.
Weirder than the Uproxx days? That one never seemed like a good fit to me.
this is literally what happened to me, too
Gave my brother a bottle of Bailey’s when he started college, and it was too strong for him and his friends to take straight so they mixed it with blue Gatorade.
WinCo (at least here in WA) is absolutely the low end of the attempted snobbery scale. Like, off-the-charts low. Not quite the selection Freddie’s has, and there are some FM/Kroger store brand things I like to get regularly, but when I want/need to save money WinCo is the store of choice, easily.
