Because a huge number of people has the idea of chivalry being "be nice to women because they are weak or unable to do things by themselves". I rather people be nice to other people regardless of gender because it makes life easier and better for everyone and not because you think the other is your inferior.

I know a couple that got married in the catholic church the same day they baptized their child, and the priest went "normally we expect people marring then baptizing the child, but oh well you are here, all is good" I thought it was nice.
