I loved it a lot and found it very interesting, well-researched, engaging, and informative. Also, he did a good job of presenting slightly sensationalized accounts of actual people that were obviously written to be entertaining, but never felt too overblown or out-of-place in an otherwise nonfiction book. Of course,

Yep. It suuuucked. Among everything else, they thought I had a mass in an ovary and I had to wait for two months to get an ultrasound. I was sort of lucky to have been in high school at the time, so I had a lot of free time to just do whatever I wanted, which was to read and draw and write. I don’t even know what I’d

I am waiting immmmpatiently for Siddhartha Mukherjee’s new book to come out. IT’S ABOUT GENES!!! I have yet to read a really good, accessible nonfiction book about genetics, so I’m hoping this will be the one.

I am a biologist (who works with aquatic systems, no less!)... But haven’t graduated from grad school yet. Tell people to hold off for four years!

My dad lived in Oregon and worked for several years when I was in mid/high school and lived in Washington state with my mom. I know it’s not quite the same, but once you have a routine, things get easier.

Is the Shedd nice? We haven’t had a chance to go yet and are wondering if it’s worth the admission for a couple of poor people.

Bradley Cooper (cat ver.) is very handsome!

Holy shit, I’d forgotten about that until you mentioned it. Wow, I spent a lot of time there!

I don’t agree with Flatow’s analysis, but this is pretty exciting for us microbiologists!

Ehhhhnnnn, not really. Chemical signaling, as far as I’m aware, is more common than electrical, and electrical synapses may only be between nerve cells. It certainly isn’t true in the way they were thinking (that’s the function of your digestive and circulatory systems). Even then, it’s not energy per se being

We made cookie today! I would share some if you were near.

Speaking of ladybugs, I had an interesting experience. Just after Thanksgiving, my partner’s family and I went out to get a Christmas tree from the usual place, where there’s an apple tree in the front yard. That tree was absolutely covered in ladybugs. Big ones, small ones, ruddy ones and gold ones. I have no idea

That’s a bridge too far (except in some very rare cases).

I don’t know, there’s something really there with “groceries”. I can’t quite understand it, but I was trying different options out (because I had a similar thought, that groceries encompasses too wide a variety) and none of them measured up. “Grand Buffet” is too... prosaic, or something.

I have the opposite problem. :( :( :(

It’s kinda ugly, but whatever! You can hardly call yourself a university if you don’t have at least one or two somewhat amorphous, abstract sculptures lying around.

Haha! My unsolicited 2 cents: never seen the show, but enjoyed the books pretty well (although they drag a bit sometimes). Also, I’m feeling a bit nostalgic for Latin class, what with thinking about declensions, trying to remember the different cases, and all that.

The Midwest ain’t so bad! Admittedly, I’ve only lived here for 8 months, so my experience is limited. The cicadas were insane, we had nice leaves and thunderstorms, it was really cold for a while (but not as snowy as I expected, thanks El Nino), now there’re daffodils and leaf buds and we went from 70 degrees F on

Ragdolls are so gorgeous. Yours is very handsome!

I wonder if this would work in the college course I TA for. I know I live for cat videos....
