To be super picky, sapphires are not as hard as diamonds: they’re a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, while diamonds are a 10. But cetainly much more sturdy than emeralds.

My parents get a lot of swallows where they live - barn and tree swallows both. They have a nest box up on the side of the house where the tree swallows like (?) to nest... The tree swallows are skittish and nervous as hell, though, and freak out whenever people/cats walk underneath the nest.

On the walk home from the train station, there’s a cardinal nest in a relatively tiny tree! I think I bothered the parents by hanging around too much. Sorry, guys, I was just excited! (Unfortunately it got blown out of the tree recently by a windstorm.)
