I understand the sentiment, but we don’t want mob rule, even in a heinous case. That is how lynchings happened. Lets try to use the rule of law.

Step one was the brief investigation. Step 2 was the officer’s firing. Step 3 should be criminal charges filed against the officer.

That should be an open-and-shut case for an assault and batter charge. The kid was not doing anything at the time, except maybe mouthing off. The appropriate penalty for mouthing off is detention after school, not physical injury.

The kid will probably be OK. His mind is not fully developed, and he will tend to forget it ever happened.
