Just the pc brigade looking to get their daily outrage out.

I'm impressed by his apology.

You are racist for calling yourself a colored person. You are also racist for not being offended. Or maybe just self-ist? Masochistic? I'm sorry, I've lost track of which "ist" term I should be using here - can someone call the PC police to help me out? Either way, it's bad, and you should be sorry, although for what,

Most of them probably aren't even being lead by political beliefs. They are being led by mob mentality and knee jerk holier-than-thou reflex.

is it bad that as a colored person, i'm not offended? i think he meant to say "people of color" and i believe it was an honest mistake.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that the only suitable punishment for making an ignorant mistake is losing all of your good fortune and having it be dispersed amongst Internet commenters, none of whom have ever been ignorant or asked forgiveness in their entire lives.

Perfectly described! In my experience it's mostly used by older ladies who are afraid to say "black".

I agree entirely. I'm not a huge fan of his, but his apology seemed really sincere, and I thought the message he was trying to convey is something which desperately needs to be said.

Because too many people are just waiting to be outraged and have no sense of nuance. They are led by their political beliefs and nothing else.

Over on my FB feed is a looong thread of what a turd Benedict Cumberbatch is, and how racist this was, and how entirely unforgivable. I am not a big fan of BC, but this is so sincere and appropriate and seemingly in his own voice—how can this be an unacceptable apology? I am impressed by it and think it should count

I am also curious. I knew it was outdated but not necessarily offensive. We still refer to people of color - is that better because they are "people" first and "color" second? Now I feel really, really tonedeaf.

Total language nerd questions here for the speaker's of the Queen's English - is/was colored an accepted term for referring to black people in the UK?

It's not that big of a deal, especially considering the valid point he was making, the fact that when not talking about just one group we refer to ourselves as people of color, and the fact that despite people saying no one uses the phrase, a very visible advocacy group- the NAACP- still uses colored. It sounds a bit

That's not cool. We might not have souls but the risk of ginger people imploding has been greatly exaggerated.

I've been having sex with lab mice for years and have yet to get pregnant.

Thanks, BPA!

Why would you even go to a chiropractor? Are there no palm readers or fortune tellers in your community? Or, maybe, medical professionals? Yeah, crazy, I know.

Put a sign on your child that says 'I'm not immunized for measles' and see if that makes the ride lineups clear for you!

It's a small world after all

I think the particular economics of maternity leave are perfect to illustrate the difficulty of implementing some of the demands that are made on employers, and not because it is related to women, so don't go accusing me of misogyny because this is about economics.

This is a reason I'm not crazy about religion. I would love for her to have returned the money because it's the right thing to do, not because she's afraid of the punishment from a higher power.
