I use Pkgbackup. It's an app in Cydia that backs up all of your Cydia packages and settings. Then when you update and re-jailbreak, you just install Pkgbackup and it finds all of your packages and installs them. It's not free, but you said the easiest (not cheapest) way to restore your jailbreak packages.
