Oh yes. “you have to get out of the car to put the top up” is something I’ve heard many times over (it still takes like 10 sec), “its not as sharp as a miata” -- also true, but different characters of cars, etc etc.

I’ve had one for 10 years and its awesome (pic not mine). You either get people who love the styling and raucous nature, or you get the miata and s2k fanbois who will find any excuse not to like it.
I know this isn’t the most exciting car, but I would still like to see it...as delicious as that meat spit looks, where’s the car in all of these? I feel like I’m looking at my mom’s vacation photos.
That sounds like my wife and I car shopping. She is not an enthusiast, and I like weird stuff. The i-Pace actually hits the spot well enough to consider, and I did last summer but couldn’t stomach the thought of an out of warranty Jag for 25k+, even with less moving parts.
I love weird cars and this does not disappoint. I understand the need for a trailer looking at the trunk, but they seem tacky as hell. The body painted rear bumper also doesn’t jive with me - even with the pinstriping, the rear end is just a sea of standard red.
I’ll raise you one: Blob-era pickup trucks
From the rear, I find it quite elegant
Assuming it passes a PPI, absolutely NP. Unique color, great car. I looked at these a year ago and I don’t think I saw any below 80k, they continue to drop like a rock.
I always heard the “time is money” argument when I was younger -- I never understood it until I had the luxury of having the choice of balancing the two. I also became a consultant, which literally depends on it lol
A lot of people lease because it is “cheaper” as a monthly payment and thats about the extent of financial sense and planning that they have. It is impossible for some folks to think beyond the monthly or paycheck cycle because they haven’t been forced to (or rather the inverse, have been forced to think that way…
This either needs to be nice and clean original (get rid of the watanabes) or go full tuner with a drivetrain swap. Either way, looks to be too much...just not a desirable enough model for that kinda money.
There’s also the point that this is significantly more beautiful than a mondial...subjective of course. Looks wise, they’re not even in the same league -- and why else would you buy either?
16k is a lot of money for something that some people look and go “huh, so that exists”. I love weird cars but this isn’t weird enough. If you want to go camping in it, just get a class C or pitch a tent, or a buy a reasonable car plus trailer used for this price. This price also gets you into proper Westy…
Its half of a lower mold for the original owner’s traffic cone casting business. It went bankrupt when customers started to complain about the inconsistent cone-ness of his products. The seller keeps this as a reminder of the heydey of his business, selling out of a van where even the largest, 6ft traffic cones could…
Yeah if anything the w123 is an example of overengineering resulting in durability, most of these are just complicated designs. Its hard to fault cars that are DIY friendly, which last for hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of miles.
Over-engineered <> properly engineered. There’s a reason these things survive for hundreds and hundreds of thousands of miles. I’ve had several from the era. Mechanical throttle linkages aren’t exactly complex, and vacuum systems are pretty simple (if annoying). If you wanted to learn to wrench on a car, a w123 would…
This is not a pretty car, even before the highligher yellow exteior. The bulbous rounded rear end reminds me of a mid 90s Tiburon that got slightly more inflated and grew up.
Surprised Alfa Romeo and Maserati are not on here. They should have enough volume to make a sizable dent on the bottom end of this.
that is a breathtaking machine
