From the rear, I find it quite elegant

Assuming it passes a PPI, absolutely NP. Unique color, great car. I looked at these a year ago and I don’t think I saw any below 80k, they continue to drop like a rock.

I always heard the “time is money” argument when I was younger -- I never understood it until I had the luxury of having the choice of balancing the two. I also became a consultant, which literally depends on it lol

A lot of people lease because it is “cheaper” as a monthly payment and thats about the extent of financial sense and planning that they have. It is impossible for some folks to think beyond the monthly or paycheck cycle because they haven’t been forced to (or rather the inverse, have been forced to think that way

This either needs to be nice and clean original (get rid of the watanabes) or go full tuner with a drivetrain swap. Either way, looks to be too much...just not a desirable enough model for that kinda money.

There’s also the point that this is significantly more beautiful than a mondial...subjective of course. Looks wise, they’re not even in the same league -- and why else would you buy either?

16k is a lot of money for something that some people look and go “huh, so that exists”. I love weird cars but this isn’t weird enough. If you want to go camping in it, just get a class C or pitch a tent, or a buy a reasonable car plus trailer used for this price. This price also gets you into proper Westy

Its half of a lower mold for the original owner’s traffic cone casting business. It went bankrupt when customers started to complain about the inconsistent cone-ness of his products. The seller keeps this as a reminder of the heydey of his business, selling out of a van where even the largest, 6ft traffic cones could

Yeah if anything the w123 is an example of overengineering resulting in durability, most of these are just complicated designs. Its hard to fault cars that are DIY friendly, which last for hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of miles.

Over-engineered <> properly engineered. There’s a reason these things survive for hundreds and hundreds of thousands of miles. I’ve had several from the era. Mechanical throttle linkages aren’t exactly complex, and vacuum systems are pretty simple (if annoying). If you wanted to learn to wrench on a car, a w123 would

This is not a pretty car, even before the highligher yellow exteior. The bulbous rounded rear end reminds me of a mid 90s Tiburon that got slightly more inflated and grew up.

Surprised Alfa Romeo and Maserati are not on here. They should have enough volume to make a sizable dent on the bottom end of this.

that is a breathtaking machine

I think a lot of the issues were tied to the quadrifoglio engine.

Counterpoint, the EV component mitigates the wear and tear on ICE components. I’ve read of accounts of NYC taxis (hybrid escapes) running hundreds of thousands of miles on original components because they go heavily on EV and regen.

Definitely need to test the roof. The roof hydraulic actuator system is the single most common failure point on these cars by a mile, and can be a pain to replace. The rest looks pretty good and better than expected for mileage. NP if the roof hydraulics check out, and that said these wear their hardtops so well.

Yeah I’ve built/managed millions in revenue for my company. My take home is my salary which is a small fraction of that (although I can’t complain). I am not going to complain about “earning” millions even though I generated it.

Same here. It seems a couple of the other writers tried to get their kicks in and it just didn’t work very well. Glad to see him back -- nothing goes better with a morning coffee and dump than these articles.

The new accords are also quite nice and fastback-y. They’ve really stepped up their design to be quite elegant. I admit the first couple times I saw them, I thought it was a new A5 or something else from Audi.

Saturn Sky 2.0T, I regularly get 35mpg on the highway (and that car is 15 years old). Closest thing to a 2.0T comparison.
