So this is what I mean when I talk about the randomness of the league. Rask is a good goalie. A solid #1. But the idea that the playoffs hinge on him is nuts. Here are his ranks in the last 5 years in SV% among goalies playing more than 41 games:

Personally, I think if offsides is so subtle that it needs replay to identify it, it didn’t matter.

Having sat through far too many atomic-level dissections of skate blades near the blue line, I have to strongly disagree with you where offside is concerned.

I think offsides replays are ridiculous.

I’d at least partially disagree on the offsides. If they’re offsides and score immediately upon entering the zone on a fast break, then sure.

Which is funny, because a generation ago the league had no problem reviewing and calling a goal back and undoing 34 seconds of gameplay (although in fairness it was to allow a different goal) in the last two minutes of a Stanley Cup Finals game 6.

Seems like they didn’t necessarily stop playing, but were caught out of position because they couldn’t locate the puck.  Because it bounced off the netting.

Also my immediate takeaway. Fuck that guy.

Looking over Football outsiders today, the Patriots beat the no.1 DVOA team (KC), the no.2 DVOA team (LAR), and the number 3 DVOA (LAC) team in the postseason this year. That’s crazy.
