There was a similar post on Jezebel a few days ago. In the comment section, the author of the post only replied to comments that were complimentary of Kinja. Anything that was critical, whether justified criticisms or whiny bitching, was pushed off the first ten thumbnails/discussions/whatever.

You mentioned great points getting buried, but it also seems that for any great point to get noticed in this new system, there must be replies. So I could make a good point, but if no one responds to it, it still gets buried regardless.

I mean, it's presumptive to assume either that someone is loaded or in debt because they have a nice house/car. To assume the latter just seems kind of insulting.
