Criminal attorney here! What exactly is it that you think would lead to contempt? Evasive answers (I don’t remember, I don’t recall...) etc. are pretty common with uncooperative witnesses, however, it doesn’t mean they should be held in contempt of court. You cannot compel a witness to testify a certain way, but you

This is just another example of Jezebel’s TERRIBLE writing when it comes to anything relating to the court system. I have to say, though, I am a former prosecutor and I cared deeply for many of the victims in crimes I prosecuted. Some have come to me in private practice. Unfortunately, I do believe I was in the

I’ll never blame Britney fans for being afraid for her safety.”

As a criminal defense attorney, I don’t blame you one bit.  It’s a terribly broken system.

This was made more complicated by the writer’s misunderstanding of the law (as is typical of The Root, Jezebel, etc...), but the cutoff isn’t as explicit as you would think.  There is typically a procedure by which the State moves to transfer a juvenile case to adult court.  None of this is to say that it’s the

He ran in 2016.  Are you okay?

If you’ve got questions I’ve (maybe!) got answers!

I am an attorney (for better or worse) and you are correct...saying she doesn’t need more money is such a dumb and lazy take.  I keep screaming from the grays for them to please try and have some basic understanding of the law if they’re going to write about it... but alas...

This is super gross.

This B just stanned for Chris Brown so....nah

Yeah well fuck Kelly Rowland.  Periodt.

Public defenders can’t decline to represent a defendant they have been appointed to represent. Your take on defense lawyers is weird and confusing. I also don’t know why you’re making such a generalization based on meeting people “once or twice in law school.” Plenty of prosecutors pull “scumbag” moves and believe

I see what you’re saying...but motions like these hardly ever get granted.  It’s just a tactic employed out of desparation.

I think they’re making a dumb argument (because this was heavily covered in Chicago as well considering he recently lived in Milwaukee), but, to be fair, they aren’t arguing for his release. They are arguing to move the trial out of New York.

The Judge didn’t sentence her...she agreed to this.  Your comments just indicate that you don’t understand how the criminal justice system works.  If she enters a plea of guilty in exchange for probation...the Judge can’t do any better than that outcome.

That’s the question I have for you.  If there is a plea agreement, what was the Judge supposed to do?

You can’t blame the Judge for accepting her guilty plea and the plea agreement.

Who else was she supposed to support if not other people?  The emphasis is on “choice” in pro-choice.  I support abortion for anyone who wants one regardless of the reason...but that doesn’t mean I have to “want” to have one myself.  I’m pretty sure most people would prefer not to need one.

According to authorities, Bonola will undergo a five-year post-release supervision after fulfilling his 25-year prison sentence. His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 16.

As someone who has worked with seriously mentally ill people who have done very bad things, the less attention they are given, the safer you are. The real problem is the media giving him any attention at all.  They shouldn’t have to post anything at all because it’s not their circus.  They have children to worry
