Correction. American companies are not willing to pay people enough to afford American-made goods, nor are they willing to accept the smaller profit margins. We bought American for a few centuries before everyone started outsourcing to increase profits.

I can’t think of an EV on the market today that would work as a cop car otherwise.

It’s a result of equipment bloat, but having been in a modern police truck - I didn’t do a crime, don’t worry - a Mirage could probably carry one cop and all of the equipment they have to pack in there.

I always found this to be funny. We have people, including politicians, bitching about China, but China makes all of our shit.

There are no, repeat NO cars that are “too small for police work”, only cops who are too spoiled to make do with what the taxpayers give them.

Good thing many of the infrastructure components in use in the US come from China, and the Chinese would never do something like this, right?

Tangentially, I’ve never really considered an EV (partly as a consequence of not having access to good charging options in my building), but between Razputin, the Saudis (or really just the whole Gulf states), Venezuela, etc., my wife and I are seriously considering one for the first time.

I also want to be able to roll back that update easily if it breaks something.

Garbage trucks too. Lots of potential regen lost there.

School Buses, Mail Carriers, Local Delivery Trucks, Police Cars... honestly anything that works in shifts and has a base where they go for refueling/restocking and shift changes... all of these should be EVs.

I’ve said it before in the comments of another article and I’ll say it again here: Tesla’s shenanigans are going to eventually affect the resale value of its vehicles. Consumers are going to wise up to the growing list of mid-year tweaks, and realize that you have to know the build date of the car to know if you’re

It’s a cute truck for people that don’t need a truck or can’t afford one need a small truck.

I’m most cases I'd agree that most people would be better served buying an SUV or a car. In this rare case the low MSRP and excellent MPGs of the hybrid have me disagreeing.

I’m guessing you live in a large city - tens of millions of Americans do not, and don’t live anywhere near a Home Depot or other truck rental facility. I’ve lived in rural areas a few times, and this thing would have absolutely crushed it in those locations. You have to drive long distances, so the good/great fuel

Following that line of reasoning, you’d be better served buying another car and leaving your truck to towing duty only. Maybe that’s what you do...? I’d imagine if you’ve got $$$ and space for a boat, it would be pretty easy to buy/park another car as well.

It’s got more interior space than my Focus, more cargo space than my Focus, AND it gets better gas mileage in the hybrid! I have never wanted to own a truck before and I’m seriously considering getting one of these.

The ‘it won’t pull my horse trailer’ crowd may be noisy on the internet, but it really isn’t that big.

Yeah. The negative reactions from some corners of the internet is a given, but when a few big sites declared that it would be a niche product I was confused. It’s affordable, to buy and drive. When does that not sell?

I was telling one of my co-workers about the Maverick and he laughed at the size of its bed.  Guy doesn’t even own a truck and thinks they need at least an 8 foot bed.  I fucking hate talking to boomers.

It is a cheap hybrid and a cheap truck and a cheap car. There was no scenario where it wasn’t going to succeed.
