If Rian Johnson just wants to make comedy murder mysteries starring beloved character actors for years and years, I’m cool with that. 

I also think it’s his funniest film by far.

100% agreed. It’s his last movie where the aesthetic feels in service of the plot, and the characters feel like real flawed people that you care about. It shares Tenenbaum’s (my other favorite) plot of “Self-centered asshole realizes too late that he’s not as charismatic and important as he thinks and tries,…
