I’ve taken up dehydrating and canning as hobbies. You can be prepared, and eat the food you’re cycling out as a bonus. Home made jam is greatness! I even make my own jerky, and made yogurt the other day with fresh fruit. The flavor and texture were far superior to the store bought swill I usually get.

“5 rounds is enough to easily take out a gang of 4.”

Calling bullshit on this one. 5 rounds MIGHT be enough. Might not. They also MIGHT run, might not.

People in stressful situations miss things they shoot at. They shoot a lot more than they think they’ve shot as well. A shotgun is a very good choice in many scenarios.

That’s why you never mention your 2000 rounds.... Or was it 4000?

I mean, you never mention your 400 rounds... or was it 200? :D

And a reloading station kind of kills that talk, because it’s a lot less obtrusive to buy a few boxes or primers here, a few jugs of powder there, a bag or two of brass casing there... etc...

One of my friends was married to a cop. He had a rule that his kid could look at his gun anytime the child wanted, as long as he was there to supervise. When the kid was 4, he was letting the kid look at it, and had dropped the mag, and cycled the breech, but hadn’t locked it open. The kid wouldn’t take it from him,

I’ve used subsonic ammo instead of a suppressor. Still enough kick to cycle my 10/22, and enough to take down small game, easily. It’s probably about as quiet as regular .22LR with a suppressor.

And don’t choose a number that’s easily guessed.

Because it will probably get better.

Before you sneer at America, go read about the recent Texas Panhandle fires, and how everyone pulled together to help each other. Maybe you’d like to donate? Here’s a gofundme that’s reached its goal of $50,000 USD, but hey, more is better in this case.

Do you have any idea how much ammo is out there though? Finite? Yes. Plentiful? Also yes. And reloading stations are a thing you know.

I keep saying I’m going to get one, but life interferes...

Reloading tools are pretty cheap. It would depend on the time frame, but you can keep a weapon fed for years with a simple set of dies, a decent mold, and access to smokeless powder (and primers), which can be had in bulk for surprisingly little.

Bernie was kind of a joke, and he definitely didn’t have one.

I always thought those cost more. I’ve been considering the purchase of one used. Now I’ll probably just buy one new!

The D&D rule that your character can only retrieve 1/2 of arrows shot is a fairly grounded rule, IMHO. You just explained why perfectly. (D&D would include pulling arrows out of corpses, who might or might not have thrashed around, breaking the arrow shaft, or might have broken the arrow head on their shield or armor)

Whatever cash you have, I also suggest buying a few silver rounds. They’re 1 ounce silver “coins” that aren’t currency. But they ARE a precious metal. They currently cost about $20 per ounce, and could be really useful in a long-term barter situation. And hey! They often climb in value, so if you need, they can also

A gun: Just kidding, no gun. If my kids can find all the flashlights, they can find a gun.

This. I have 2 different ones, and use them daily. (I got one with my lodge sauce pan that I picked up for cheap, still new, at the Salvation Army. I already had the other one)

My wife misses her Mazda3. It was 7 years old with 150K miles on it when she got it, and she still loved that little car. She totaled it and got a brand new Focus in exchange, which she loves. But the nimbleness of that 3 was amazing.

You don’t need licensing or registration for an off-road-only vehicle. In theory, you could drop a pickup truck off at a ranch, never drive it on a road, and never have to file any papers on the thing.

But a VW Jetta/Golf/Passat would be a crappy off-road vehicle.

Bright colors in cars are associated with either really cheap or really expensive cars. Not much middle ground.
