To piggy back... Iowa helps fund the EV tax credit so Californians use less gasoline, and California helps fund the corn subsidies so Iowa has an economy at all.

And when your mangled, lifeless body with brain guts splattered across pavement causes the road to be closed for a few hours while they clean it up, I say the your freedom has seriously impacted mine.

My Boxster was at the dealer for some warranty work and they gave me a $100,000 Panamera as a loaner. I was in awe of the room I now had, so I immediately went to Home Depot and loaded it up with lumber and other hardware for some projects I had been putting off.
Still waiting for the sound clip...
Well, the A3 and A4 are both mid sized according to this list, so I’d say it’s just a case of an intern writing it up.
Huh? We have a V60, it’s huge compared to the GTI I was driving before it.
The Volvos missing the “+” rating is odd indeed. The 2017 models have it and the ‘18s are the exact same car. It was my understanding that the “+” rating meant they had meaningful crash detection and avoidance systems, and the V/S60s are noted as “advanced” and “superior”. We just bought a ‘17 V60 for that reason, and…
Every single turbo car has turbo lag. It’s just physics - it’s impossible not to have it. I’ve driven so many cars that people claim have no lag, and all I can feel is lag. Sure, they’re much better than they used to be, but even .1 seconds between mashing the throttle to making full boost is lag.
I’m a recent transplant to SoCal and this is my first fire season. We can see flames from the Thomas fire from our house. I was in panic mode, ready to get the hell out of dodge yesterday. Then I see videos like this where people are driving through it like it’s nothing just to get to work.
I think the quickest accelerating ‘thing’ I’ve ever been on was the Batman and Robin ride at Six Flags Great Adventure in the late 90's. That launched you to 65mph in about 4 seconds, and I still think about the sensation. I can’t even fathom cutting that in half.
I can go buy a used electric FIAT 500e for under $7,000, or lease a new one for $79/mo. Not exactly high-roller money.
Neutral:
My situation is a little unique, but we currently live in SoCal and my commute is 2 miles. We only have a single car for us to share, and I have a motorcycle that gets used most of the time. I’ve thought if I get a car, the sub-$7,000 FIAT 500e’s out there may be tempting for a local runabout. Tiny size and…
I’d only add that opening up your search beyond what you’re looking for may capture something. I’ve been taking my time hunting for a 996, and I’ve noticed that if I specify things like “Carerra”, or “Coupe”, or “2WD”,, or ‘Manual”, very often I will miss a few cars that meet that criteria but are listed as an…
I can’t speak for anywhere but California, but here, splitting is not technically legal, it’s just that it isn’t explicitly illegal. As such, there are no laws around when you can do it and it’s pretty much at a cop’s discretion if you get a ticket for being unsafe. The CHP used to have a list of guidelines posted…
Lane splitting (technically lane sharing) and filtering are two different things, and not what you described.
Splitting/sharing is riding between traffic, whether they are slow, stopped, moving, whatever.
Filtering is riding between cars at a stop light to get to the front.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t feel like you had to win when buying a car? If enough people simply refused to put up with dealership shenanigans, the shitty ones would evaporate. They only do it because there’s always a couple of suckers that’ll go along with it. Your business is precious, give it wisely.
This is more betterer. Once upon a time I had a brand new Porsche. No dents, no dings, no miles. It had the most ‘soul’ of any car I’ve owned, and there have been a lot of beat up old ones that I adored. Age, condition and history have nothing to do with it. I also cringe at the word “soul” being applied to…
Flight attendants are generally strapped into a seat, behind a bulkhead and with their own window. There’s no way the view from the window in seat 14A is providing them with any information, if they can even see it. I’ve flown on every major in the US and have never been asked to raise my window shade. If airlines…
You’re making too many assumptions on people’s financing. I took out a 5 year loan on the car I have now. I paid ~$25k for it and put $17k down between trade in equity and cash. I will never be upside down. My payments are a measly $150/mo. I could have afforded a much shorter term (like 6 months), and I could…
